Nigeria’s Country Representative of the World Health Organization (WHO), Dr Walter Kazadi Mulombo, today, led a team from the organization on an official tour of the production house of Nonye’s Healthy Living Pap in Awka.
The team’s visit was to assess the production processes, formulation, distribution pattern, essence and impacts of the product in Anambra’s health sector.
On arrival at the production house, Dr. Mulombo, who was represented by his secretary, Dr. Uju Agubuche along with the Anambra State WHO Coordinator, Dr. Muhammad Bonos, inspected the different stages of the production procedures with particular attention to the formulation process and hygiene rules.
Nonye’s Healthy Living Pap is a purely organic supplement for children with malnutrition, produced by wife of the governor of Anambra State, Mrs Nonye Soludo.
Speaking after the inspection, the WHO Country Rep, Dr. Mulombo, said that the production processes for the supplement take careful consideration of the primary demands of hygiene and the right level of attention to formulation requirements.
He noted that with the unique nature of the intervention, Mrs Soludo has greatly complemented both the government and the organization’s work vision, by leading a practical movement of change that benefits primary health care delivery.
He further noted that having made the product completely free of charge, the governor’s wife has embraced a special aspect of social responsibility that has given birth to remarkable impacts, with Anambra’s malnutrition index now nearing an all-time low.
On his part, the Commissioner for Health and Anambra State Coordinator of Healthy Living with Nonye Soludo Initiative, Dr Afam Obidike, appreciated the WHO team for taking notice of the Nonye’s Healthy Living Pap programme, and sought their partnership for the project’s expansion.
He also briefed the team on the distribution pattern of the product, as well as the results that have been collated so far.
As of date, the total production of the pap stands at 6,000, with a distribution count of 5,760, resulting in over 1,800 recoveries since the programme began in August 2023.
Production for the third phase is currently ongoing, while the distribution will commence in due course.
