Wema Bank launches Hackaholics 2.0
Hackaholics is a program set up by WEMA to promote the development of technological solutions for financial and institutional needs, and other everyday social issues.
The 2020 edition of the Wema Hackathon tagged ‘Hackaholics 2.0’ will be hosting participants virtually in a two-day pitch competition to exhibit innovative solutions with excellent market potential, capable of solving essential, everyday business problems under five (5) major verticals – Agritech, Healthtech, Edutech, Fintech and Gaming.
It brings together developers, designers and creative thinkers to develop products and discover new technologies. Example of such applications includes innovations in risk management, trading, investing, personal finance, big data, retail banking, regulatory compliance, mobile payments and enterprise social, environmental and health issues.
The program this year kicks off with a pitch competition where the top (10) ten solutions would be selected to participate in a high level four-weeks virtual bootcamp. The bootcamp participants will get the opportunity to meet with industry experts and mentors who would help refine core areas of their businesses. They will go on to pitch their solutions to the bank and other investors at the Demo Day.
Hackaholics 2.0 promises to be an interactive virtual event where business owners, innovators, and creative thinkers will learn, network and demo solutions specific to the highlighted industries.
The winning solutions will receive up to $40,000 in funding alongside other numerous non-cash benefits like access to market, direct link to industry experts, mentor network, access to APIs among other resources.
Successful startups will proceed to a 4-week Accelerator Bootcamp Programme – A programme focused on creating commercialisation opportunities for participating startups, leveraging best-in-class curriculum and global footprint to nurture and strategically position startups to scale up as they launch into the market.
