We Received No Significant Covid-19 assistance from Gov’t – Cleric

The priest in charge of St. Charles Borromeo Specialist Hospital Onitsha, Anambra State, Rev. Fr. Izunna Okonkwo PhD has stated that his Hospital is yet to receive Covid-19 Assistance from either the Federal or state government.

Speaking to newsman in Onitsha, Anambra State, the Chief Exective Officer of the Hospital disclosed that they only received assistance from good spirited individuals from the State including former Governor of the state, Mr. Peter Obi who he said donated Personal Preventive Equipment (PPE) to their health care providers.

He also mentioned High Chief Obiora Okonkwo PhD as another person who offered the Hospital  staff substantial assistance, adding that they equally received aids from their Hungarians partners.

” For me, it looks like a miracle. We have been hearing news of some health care providers who have died because of Covid-19  crisis but in this Hospital, none of our staff died.

“Infact, at a stage,  I began to attribute the safety of our staff to the visit of St. Pope John Paul to our Hospital when he visited Nigeria in 1982. He signed our visitors book, prayed for our staff, patients and Hospital in general” 

The erudite scholar recounted his  experiences of Covid-19 crisis and its devastating effects especially when he wanted to travel to Hungary with Archbishop Valerian Okeke, revealing that they were subjected to compulsory Covid-19 screening test even though he has gone before and tested  negative.

” Before we started the journey, every body was subjected to go Covid-19 screening test even though I have already tested and proved negative as well as taken vaccination. Nobody was allowed to board flight without showing proof of Covid-19 screening test.

“We were subsequently but taking vaccine was not enough for someone to avoid contacting the deadly virus. Some persons tested Covid-19 positive without  taking drug and survived while some took vaccination and still contacted Covid-19. Some also contacted the virus, treated it but later died. Covid-19 devastating effect depends largely on individual’s body components, he said”

While Fr. Okonkwo reminded the public the true existence of Covid-19, he warned people to treat Covid-19 early if detected and endeavour to take vaccination as would be directed.

He predicted that a time would come when people would be barred from traveling out without Covid-19 screening proof.
