Visually Impaired Teacher, Nwabunwanne Urges Anambra Government to Deploy Traffic Controllers, Absorb PTA Teachers
By Queen Anigbogu
A visually impaired secondary school teacher, Mrs Chinyere Nwabunwanne, has appealed to the Anambra State Government to deploy traffic controllers to the Oye-Agu Abagana–Onitsha Old Road axis, opposite Saint Mary’s High School, Ifitedunu, and Saint Martin’s Catholic Church, Abagana, to ensure the safety of school children and persons living with visual impairment.
Mrs Nwabunwanne, a Parent-Teacher Association (PTA) teacher at Saint Mary’s High School, Ifitedunu, said the busy road poses a major challenge for visually impaired persons and schoolchildren attempting to cross, stressing the need for urgent government intervention to prevent accidents.
She also appealed to the state government to consider PTA teachers in its planned recruitment of teachers into the Anambra State Civil Service.
According to her, absorbing PTA teachers, particularly those living with disabilities, into the state workforce would provide them with better remuneration, improve their families’ welfare and enable them to pursue further career development.
Mrs Nwabunwanne, however, expressed appreciation to the Anambra State Government for its continued support for persons living with disabilities across the state.
