Uzodike lauds Soludo on self-appraisal, warns against distractions

Chief Joe-Martins Uzodike, a former Commissioner for Information in Anambra, has commended Gov. Chukwuma Soludo for conducting a midterm review with a view to assessing the impact of his administration.

Uzodike said this in a parley with newsmen in Awka on Monday.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Soludo recently held a two-day, mid-term retreat for his appointees to review the performance of his government and elicit responses on unmet expectations

The elder statesman said no public officer in government could conduct a candid self appraisal of himself if he did not have a genuine intention to deliver on his promises and meet the aspirations of the people.

“I have been briefed by some appointees of this government about the two-day retreat, organised by the governor and members of his exco as well as local government transition chairmen.

“I understand that the governor not only asked the appointees to present their scorecards but also asked them to give him feedback on the people’s assessment of his government.

“This is commendable, I want to thank the governor for his sincerity and I want to call on other people holding positions of trust to borrow a leaf and take time to assess themselves as Soludo has done,” he said.

Uzodike, a Chieftain of the Labour Party, frowned at the spat between Soludo and the church on one hand and with the traditional institution on the other.

He urged the governor to avoid such distractions but work harmoniously with them in the interest of the public.

When asked if he was dumping the Labour Party for the ruling All Progressives Grand Alliance, Uzodike dismissed the insinuation, noting that he was only being a statesman who should judge every action on its merit.
