US-based medical mission performs over 50 eye surgeries in Anambra
Lifted Hands Inc, a medical outreach based in U.S., has carried out successful eye surgeries on over 50 people at Ogidi, Idemili North Local Government Area of Anambra State.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the surgeries were performed at Iyi-Enu University Teaching Hospital, Ogidi.
In an interview with NAN, an ophthamologist and member of the team, Dr Obinna Arinze, said that the surgeries were all successful.
According to Arinze, the mission remains happy that there are no complications arising from the surgeries.
He said that those operated on were mostly patients with severe cases.
“It was tough having to operate on so many patients within two days, but we are grateful to God that it all ended well.
“Now, we will move to Abia State to continue with the outreach,” he said.
In his remarks, the President of Lifted Hands Inc., Mr Moses Okaro, said that coming to Nigeria on the volunteer mission had been rewarding.
Okaro said that the healing the mission brought to the patients gave the team joy.
He hinted on plans by the team to return to Nigeria in 2025 to continue with the outreach.
Okaro said that the outreach, was an annual which had lasted for 15 years, was an annual event in memory of his late mother, Mrs Gladys Okaro.
“One of the beneficiaries, Mr Pascal Obasi, said that he was grateful to God and the team for returning his failing sight.
“I would have had this surgery done since, but due to paucity of funds, I could not achieve that. I thank God for this mission and the joy it brought.
“I am not even from Anambra. I heard of the outreach and came from Imo State, and they accommodated me. God will bless them,” he said.
Mrs Agnes Okafor, another beneficiary, said that the surgery had given her a new lease of life.
“Our sons and daughters who brought this outreach to Anambra from America have done great, and we are grateful,” she said.
NAN reports that a 15-man team of surgeons and nurses carried out the outreach.
