Urum Town, Diaspora Stakeholders, Others Gifts Security Vehicle, Motorcycles To Vigilante Service

Grassroots security in Urum Community Awka North Council Area has earned a boost with the donation of a security van and twelve motorcycles.

The security vehicle and motorcycles were donated by Urum stakeholders in diaspora and concerned citizens at home.

Paul Ezeoke reports that  the inauguration of the security vehicle and motorcycles attracted many dignitaries and stakeholders in the area.

Inaugurating the vehicle and motorcycles the Special Adviser to the Governor on Security and Protection, Chief Chikodi Anara said the intervention was in line with Governor Obiano’s policy thrust on Security of life and property which has made the state the safest in the country and reference point other states are consulting for solution on how to tackle their own security challenges.

Chief Anara urged other communities in the state to emulate Urum community in equipping and empowering their own vigilante services to complement what the state government is doing to sustain efficient security infrastructure in all parts of the state and urged members of the vigilante service to put the materials to good use to justify the confidence reposed in them.

He extolled the visionary approach and proactive measures initiated by the President General of the town, Mr Aloysius Tabansi which he noted would continue to attract development to the area.

In his speech, the President General of Urum Community, Mr  Tabansi who noted that the intervention was first of its kind in the town commended the donors for being responsive to needs and aspirations of the town, noting that security of life and property is a collective responsibility of both the government and the people and recalled that before now, the Urum indigenes in diaspora have been assisting in other areas to promote security in the community including providing gadgets and other logistics.

He assured that the logistics would be put to good use to achieve the objective of securing the area.

The Chairman Urum Indigenes in Diaspora Chief Ignatius Nnaemeka in his speech noted that security s paramount in socioeconomic and political development of every society, adding that the intervention was part of giving back to the community and contributing towards entrenching sustainable growth and development of the area.

Chief Nnaemeka assured that they would do more for the security outfit to encourage efficiency in their activities.

A community leader in the area Chief Obikwelu Nnawetamma noted that the initiative was a demonstration of unity of purpose among the people of the community that would expand scope of development.
