UNIZIK: TRAFFIC OBSTRUCTION, AS ST. JOSEPH THE WORKER CELEBRATES CHRIST THE KING DAY

Hundreds of worshippers at Saint Joseph The Worker Catholic Chaplaincy, Awka joined millons of Roman Catholic Church members all over the world on Sunday to celebrate the Solemnity of CHRIST THE KING day, with it’s attendant traffic obstruction to road users which lasted for hours along Unizik junction-Okpuno road.

The celebration coincided with the 34th and Last Sunday of the Year, in the Church calendar or the liturgical year in the Catholic faith.

The Solemnity of CHRIST THE KING, or in the Latin terms, “Corpus Christi” is the Celebration of Jesus Christ’s Messianic Kingship and Sovereign rule over all creations, where He is described as seated at the right hand of God.

The procession which started by Fifteenth Hour of the day _(by 3 o’clock PM at noon)was led by the Vicar of St Joseph the Worker Catholic Church Unizik junction Awka, Reverend Fr.Vitus Onyekaba, trekking under the scorching sun with the congregation for nearly 12 Kilometers from the Unizik School’s Bus Stand at Temp site Awka till their destination at the new Church building site at 6 pm.

The procession hindered free movement of vehicles for hours even as Adoration of Jesus and Thanksgiving were highlights of the celebration.

In his homily at the end of the procession, the Vicar;Rev.Fr.Vitus Onyekaba encouraged Christians to worship God in truth and spirit, adding that extending our help to the poor and needy without showmanship is the greatest show of our Christan faith.

Rev.Fr.Onyekaba, added that such an event will re-occur on the 27th November,being the 1st Sunday of the Year, 2023 and urged worshippers to look forward to it next year.

The Priest in residence Rev Fr Jude Barnaby and Chaplain Rev Fr Ezeokonkwo Remigus witnessed the procession.
