UNIZIK: “Hard work doesn’t kill’ – Prof Omenugha charges fresh students

The induction ceremony for newly admitted students of the 2021/2022 set of Mass Communication, Nnamdi Azikiwe University Awka, UNIZIK held on the 15th of February, 2023 at the Departmental auditorium had many dignitaries in attendance.

The dignitaries included the former Commissioner for Basic Education Anambra state and senior Professor of the Department_Prof. Kate Azuka Omenugha, the Chairman and Secretary of the NUJ Anambra chapter _Dr Odogwu Emeka Odogwu and Sir Aloysius Ofordile respectively, the current Head Of Department_Prof Cornelius Ukwueze, The Director of Open and Distant learning_Prof Okwuchukwu Godson Okafor, the Association of Mass Communication students (ASOMACS) Adviser_Dr Uche Ekwugha, the Coordinator of Undergraduates program_Dr Henry Duru and so many others.

Prof. Kate Omenugha speaking on the occasion urged the students to embrace hardwork as hard work doesn’t kill. She gave the students excerpts of her life as a lecturer in the Department and warned them against campus marriage and other social vices.

The current H.O.D of the Department Prof Cornelius Ukwueze in his opening remarks told the students that the aim of the induction was to familiarize them with the do’s and don’ts of the Department.

In one of the Lectures Dr Henry Duru urged the students to always calculate their G.P and G.P.A at the end of a session.

In his words”Your failure or success in this Department starts now. He also let the students know that there is a difference between Final year and 4th year.

The Director of UNIZIK FM Prof Ifeoma Dunu who also takes the students on Speech Communication assured the students of their Lecturers commitment towards them.

Another Lecturer, Prof Uche Ebeze who was a former HoD acknowledged Prof Kate for making him who he is today. He talked to the students about social etiquette and formal behavior.

An important personality at the occasion_Prof Justin Okafor who was the first ASOMACS Adviser described Prof Kate as a workaholic who moved the Department forward. He gave a brief history of the Department which started as a unit under sociology before graduating into a full fledged Department.

The climax of the occasion was the induction proper which comprised of the oat taking and cutting of the induction cake chaired by the H.O.D.

The Departmental President
Maximilian Ekwomadu in his closing remarks thanƙed the guests and the students in general for making the ceremony a success.
