UNIZIK FRESH STUDENTS CONCLUDE DAY ONE ORIENTATION PROGRAMME ON A HIGH NOTE

Nnamdi Azikiwe University Awka, on Monday commenced a three-day orientation programme for its fresh students. The orientation programme with its theme: “Sustaining the Spirit of Project 200′ is for the year one students of the institution for the 2020/21 academic session.The orientation programme is designed to empower the freshers to make a successful transition to the University environment, initiate and catalyze the process of higher learning as well as integrate students into the campus culture.

In his address, the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Charles Esimone, FAS congratulated the fresh students on a great feat of gaining admission into a University in Nigeria taking into cognizance the intense competition. The Vice-Chancellor ably represented by the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic), Prof. Frederick Odibo urged the students to make optimal use of the University facilities placed at their disposal to ensure that they graduate on-time and with good grades.

Prof. Esimone also narrated other facilities geared towards easing the stay of students in the University such as Work-Aid scheme to assist indigent and physically challenged students, insurance scheme, well-equipped common rooms with access to DSTV cable network. The Chief Executive Officer of the institution advised them to eschew vices such as examination malpractice, certificate forgery and cultism. He also harped on attendance at lectures to the tune of at least 75 percent in order to be qualified to seat for examination.

Highpoints of the occasion were Orientation lectures by members of the University management and principal officers of the institution. Prof. Frederick Odibo, DVC (Academic) lectured on University Academic Regulations; The University Registrar, Barr. Philomena Okoye represented by the Deputy Registrar (Council), Mrs Ogonna Nwokeke lectured on Administrative Organogram and Registration Guidelines in the University; The University Bursar, Mrs Joy Ojukwu ably represented by the Deputy Bursar, Mr Mark Amaefule, talked on Students Financial Guidelines. Other lectures were Proper and Effective Use of the Library by the Librarian, Dr. (Mrs) N.S.I Anasi; Course credit systems in the University by the Director Academic Planning, Prof. Harry Odimegwu; Security Services: Issues and Challenges on Campus by the Chief Safety Officer, Mr. Ken Chukwurah; Assessing Medical Services in the University by the Director Medical Services, Prof. Lasbery Asomugha and Ethics and Morals on Campus by Prof. Charles Nwaiwu.
