UNIPGC Liaison Office Unveiled in Awka

The Anambra State, Nigeria Chapter Of the United International Peace and Governance Council of Africa (UN-IPGC AFRICA) has been unveiled in Àwka.

The Unveiling which took place at Hallmart Plaza had the Governor of Anambra State, Commissioner for Women and Social Welfare, members of the international communities among others at the event.

While addressing the volunteers of the new office, the Anambra State Governor, Prof. Chukwuma Soludo represented by the Commissioner for Special Duties, Barrister Sly Ezeokenwa charged them to put in their best in making sure that the purpose of their volunteerism is fulfilled.

The Governor went further to appreciate the representatives of the different international communities present and assured of good and conducive atmosphere for more favorable partnership.

In her speech titled “Enablers of Violence against Women” the women and social welfare Commissioner, Hon Ify Obinabo urged women to stop allowing themselves as enablers of violence against their fellow women.

The women and social welfare boss went further to give instances where women have been enablers of violence and called on them and the male folks alike to prevent such by being agents of change anywhere they find themselves.

Also, the Regional Director, UN-IPGC West Africa, Dr Stanley Godwin Ebhodaghe and the Country President, International Human Rights Protection Services, USA, Dr Charles Omini decried the high rate of violence against women promising that if message hits target audience, more interventions will be brought to the state.

While admonishing the inductees of the UNIPGC, the UNIPGC Special Envoy on Sustainable Peace Education, Anambra State, Dr Chimbo Obieze encouraged them to not allow their passion for the job wane even as he noted that the UNIPGC liaison office will do all its best to making sure that lives are transformed.

The event was also an avenue to celebrate the International Day for the Prevention of Violence against Women while the theme is “Transforming Our World Through Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

Highlight of the event was the official Unveiling of the Anambra State UNIPGC Diplomatic Liason office and Arbitration Centre done by the Commissioner for Special Duties and the induction of the volunteers of the UNIPGC by the Regional Director, UNIPGC West Africa.
