UH Coverage: Enugu Assembly advises agency to ensure authentic list of beneficiaries

The Enugu State House of Assembly has charged the State Agency for Universal Health(UH) Coverage to make sure the names in its list of beneficiaries were not fictitious.

The Chairman, House Committee on Health, Mr Sam Ngene, gave the charge on Thursday, when the committee monitored the on-going health scheme at Abakpa-Nike Health Centre.
Ngene said that having fictitious names on the list would defeat the aim of establishing the agency.
He said that the scheme’s objective is to provide free healthcare to residents of the state, in line with the agenda of the state government.

He warned the health centre management against asking beneficiaries to pay for treatment.
According to him, all treatments accessed under the scheme, including delivery, are entirely free.
The lawmaker urged residents of Abakpa and its environs to enroll in the scheme to enable them to benefit maximally from it.
He advised the Officer in-charge of the centre, Mrs Grace Nwobodo, to ensure that intending enrollees were captured immediately.

A member of the committee, Mr Jeff Mba, commended the State Government for prioritising the health of the residents, especially the poorest of the poor.
In a remark, Nwobodo thanked the lawmakers for their visit and words of advice.
She promised that the centre would work with the advice “to ensure that residents of the area benefit from what is meant for them”.
