UCHE EKWUNIFE AS A BEACON OF GOOD GOVERNANCE FOR ‘NDI’ ANAMBRA

For the purpose of objectivity, and in a desperate attempt to weed out every margin of exaggeration, I consider it pertinent to limit the scope of my appraisal of Iyom’s performance to only the project she attracted since her induction into the 9th senate. Records are not kept simply to assist the weakness of the memory but to operate as guides to the future.

As it’s obtainable in our contemporary world, there’s something that is much more scare, something rarer than ability. It’s ability to recognize ability.

Senator Uche Ekwunife’s unique ability in delivering succour and good governance to the people at the grassroots has placed her on the pedestal of great political leaders who are ever ready to sacrifice their comfort and resources on the altar of empathy and humanity.

For formality sake, Uche Ekwunife is a Nigerian female politician who has built a formidable reputation for herself prior to her election in 2019, to represent Anambra Central Senatorial District in the 9th National Assembly on the platform of People Democratic Party (PDP). Her ticket to the present 9th senate was more or less purchased by dint of her laudable performance in her previous stints at both lower and upper legislative chambers.

In spite of the ugly impacts of coronavirus pandemic in more than half of the 18 months that the 9th senate has been in its legislative existence, Iyom has not relented a bit as she continue to address the developmental challenges of her people.

Like the activities of Jesus as reported in Acts 10 verse 38, Iyom has been touring her constituency which consist of 7 LGAs namely Awka North and Awka South, Idemili North and Idemili South, Njikoka, Anaocha and Dunukofia, doing good and providing every shades of democratic dividend which seek to assuage the most pressing yearnings of the people at the grassroots.

For the poor crippled widow, Mrs Angela Muoneke of Umuzocha village Awka, in Awka South L.G.A. the thoughts of erecting a 3 bedroom bungalow could have passed off as a malaria induced dream until Senator Uche Ekwunife came to her rescue. At the moment, the 3 bedroom bungalows under construction on the piece of land donated for that purpose by his lordship Paulinus Ezeokafor, the bishop of Awka diocese, would be completed in matter of weeks and the keys would be handed over to her. Such also is the fate of Mr Chizoba Nduagubu of Adazi-Nnukwu in Anaocha LGA, Mrs Mercy Emeonye, another poor widow who hail from Agulu in Anaocha L.G.A. Altogether, there are 14 indigent persons designed to benefit from Senator Ekwunife’s building projects which cut across the 7 LGAs within her senatorial district.

On the area of provision of road infrastructure, the 7 LGAs which fall within Anambra Central Senatorial District could best be described as a construction site due to the various stages of works going on simultaneously in each of those local council areas. In Obosi, Idemili North, Echezona street road which interlinks Igwe Nwakobi road, Obosi Urban is under construction courtesy of the intervention of Senator Uche Ekwunife.

At Igweogige village in the heart of Awka capital city, the dilapidated Amikwo road is being reconstructed which at the completion will help in discongesting the popular Ziks Avenue. As usual, the project is being facilitated by the distinguished Senator Uche Ekwunife.

In a similar development, the people of Adazi-Nnukwu in Anaocha LGA of Anambra state are still feeling ecstatic as Iyom facilitates a road construction project for their community.

Senator Uche Ekwunife being conscious of the strategic position that youths occupy in the society, did not exempt them in the scheme of things. For 4 whole days at Event Hall Awka, she facilitated massive Entrepreneurial Development and Skills Acquisition Training for the selected youths drawn from the different Wards and LGAs that make up her senatorial district. At the training, the participants were exposed to the modern techniques on food processing, Production, Branding and Packaging. She had also built for students a Solar powered Borehole at Central Primary School Okpuno which was flagged off on the 6th of November 2020 and has since been completed.

Among other numerous projects being linked to Distinguished Senator Uche Ekwunife, is the installation of Solar powered Street lights in Agulu, Isiagu, Nibo, Obeledu, Urum, Akwaeze and 17 other communities. She did also facilitate the construction of an Erosion Control Project at Izuchukwu Obi Road, Ifitedunu in Dunukofia L.G.A.

It’s based on these estimable record of people oriented projects associated with Distinguished Senator Uche Ekwunife that some concerned indigenes and residents of Anambra state are mounting unprecedented pressure on her to come to the rescue of Anambra state as the 2021 Anambra Gubernatorial election draws nearer.

For me personally, having senator Uche Ekwunife as the next Governor of Anambra state should be a project that every Anambrarian and her residents should work collaboratively together to deliver in 2021 because the reward for hard work is more work!
