Tiv Group Opposes Gov. Alia’s Second Term Bid, Pushes for 2027 Governorship

A political group, the Movement for the Actualization of Kwande Gubernatorial Ambition (MAKGA), has launched a campaign against Gov. Hyacinth Alia’s bid for a second term in Benue State. The group advocates for the Kwande and Ushongo LGAs to produce the next governor in 2027, aiming to complete the tenure of the late Aper Aku, the state’s first civilian governor, whose term was cut short by the 1983 military coup. Led by Leonard Ikyem, the group emphasizes the longstanding political tradition of the Kwande people and their contributions to the state. They argue that a Kwande indigene, if given the chance, would continue the legacy of Aper Aku and bring unmatched service to Benue. The group is mobilizing support for their gubernatorial ambition, stressing that their cause transcends individuals and aims to fulfill an unfinished mission for the state’s progress.
