Titan open chess community championship kicks off in Unizik Awka

The chess community Awka ‘the titan open chess community championship ‘ kicks off today, making its third edition in Nnamdi Azikiwe University Awka.

The event which started on the 9th January, will run till 11th January , 2024 at the Faculty of Social Sciences, Unizik Awka.

Featured in the event is a classical format with 60 minutes per player and a 30 secs increment per move with cash prizes for top performers and special reward for the best junior participant.

Speaking with Joshua Odinaka Udochukwu ,the organiser of the championship, he said he is a very huge fan of chess and was motivated in bringing down high class tournament and also bringing together strong players from across the states.
He said it is a series and he don’t intend to stop here.

Speaking to one of the participants, Chukwu Joshua the relevance of Chess as a game was emphasized,
‘ I find chess interesting and a game that requires knowledge and improves ones IQ ‘ he said.

In critique of the game and it’s prizes, Elotoma Michael, a student of Delta State University, said that the prize categories are okay compared to the one organized in Delta State, thereby praised the organisers for their thoughtfulness and preparation towards the success of the game.
