The Germany striker Timo Werner was heavily linked with a move to Liverpool before opting for Chelsea FC with Frank Lampard landing his second major signing as Chelsea boss after activating his £53million release clause. Initially it seemed Timo Werner was destined to join Liverpool, Lampard and Blues technical and performance advisor Petr Cech flew to Germany and pitched their project to Werner in person successfully.
The German striker Timo Werner was widely expected to move to Anfield this summer as Jurgen Klopp looked to improve the newly-crowned Premier League champions’ squad.
Due to the corona virus pandemic the Merseysiders was forced to re-examine their transfer plans, but Chelsea stole a march on the Liverpool and agreed a deal for the RB Leipzig striker Timo Werner.
Chelsea legend Micheal Ballack believes Timo Werner made the best decision by signing for Chelsea’s side over Liverpool, Ballack insisted that Werner made a great decision by joining an exciting project at Chelsea FC.
Timo Werner looked destined to join Liverpool this summer, but has instead signed for Blues. Timo Werner said He was convinced when MIcheal Ballack told him this, “If Liverpool was really an option for him, he made the best decision for him(Werner), and only he can make that decision.
He also told me that “You have to value certain things, like how much playing time you will get and how important a role in the squad you will have. Liverpool have won the Champions League and Premier League with front three that start every week, how can you be in place of Mo Salah, Roberto Firmino or Sadio Mane but “The Blues are building a new team with a young team and also with a young coach. It is a great project to be part of the blues given how young you are.
Werner said after all this Michael Ballack told him he was then very convinced and confident to join Chelsea but I pray they will secure the big four because he will like to take path in the Champions League next season. Former Chelsea star Micheal Ballack said “To be the main striker, at a huge club like Chelsea, is the best place for Timo Werner. He can have a much bigger impact than he could at Liverpool.”
