‘Time Has Come For Igbo Presidency’ – Yunusa Tanko

National Chairman of the National Conscience Party [NCP], Dr Yunusa Tanko, has thrown his weight behind the quest by the people of the South East geopolitical zone to produce the next president of Nigeria in 2023.

Tanko, who was the presidential candidate of his party in the 2019 election, at a summit held in Awka, the Anambra State capital to discuss the way forward for Ndigbo, made it clear that time had come for the zone to contribute their quota politically to the development of the country.

This is even as the Bishop of Amichi Diocese, Anglican Communion, Rt. Revd. Ephraim Ikeakor, said that restructuring was key to solving Nigeria’s many problems.

Tanko said: “Time has come for the Igbo presidency of the federal republic of Nigeria. The issue of Igbo presidency has been an agitation for a very long time. Now you look at the issue from 1960-1966. The Igbo had occupied the position only that particular time. But it has been so long and they have been ignored.”

Bishop Ikeakor, while briefing the clergy and laity in the diocese at St. Ebenezer’s Anglican Church, Unubi in Nnewi South LGA on the modalities for the 2020 synod slated to hold from October 14-18, advised the federal government to restructure the country before it’s late.

“If you want to avert the extreme part of a problem, you nip the problem in the bud. I am sure that if things are done well, no right thinking person will talk about secession. Secession is the last option for the marginalized and the oppressed in a country.

“Restructuring is the safest and most morally upright approach to solving Nigeria’s problems. If they are not ready for restructuring, I want to tell you, secession becomes a viable option. Nobody chooses to be a slave in his own land”, the prelate stated.
