THREE ALLEGEDLY KILLED IN IFITE OGWARI CLASH INVOLVING AGUNAECHEMBA OPERATIVES

About three persons have allegedly died during a mob action in Ifite Ogwari, Ayamelum Local Government Area of Anambra state.The incident which occurred on Thursday night was reportedly caused by the beating to death of a young man accused of being involved in stealing by the operatives of Anambra State Security outfit Agunechemba.Some youths in the community who were said to have been angered by the development carried the corpse of the young man and went on protest to the office of the Security outfit where they allegedly destroyed houses and set an operational vehicle ablaze.The situation escalated, leading to a fight between the mob and the security personnel which allegedly resulted in the death of two more persons.Speaking with Radio Nigeria, a member of the Traditional Ruling Council of the community who spoke on grounds of anonymity, regretted the development but said the situation had been brought under control by the stakeholders including the Town Union Leadership.The member representing Ayamelum Constituency in Anambra state House of Assembly, Mr Bernard Udemezue described the incident as unfortunate and blamed it on theabuse of power by the local security outfit and over reaction by the youths.While condoling with the three families that lost their loved ones, Mr Udemezue sued for calm in the community.“The incident is an unfortunate one that we never wished for. We are calling for calm so that the appropriate authorities can come in and handle the situation, to serve justice to all concerned. We also condole with the families of those who lost their loved ones – I think about three people were killed. We pray that God will give them the fortitude to bear the loss.”When contacted, the Police Public Relations Officer in Anambra State, Tochukwu Ikenga said that the command has not been briefed on the incident.
