THREATS AND INTIMIDATION BY POLITICIANS IN ENUGU STATE

A distress call to the press community and to the general public


ENUGU, NIGERIA: Today, A Luta (alutaexpress.com), an online news outlet specialising in political news, announced that some politicians in Enugu State (Nigeria) have been threatening its existence and its editor, Mr Jude Ogbonna.


Vanguard (a tabloid newspaper) ran a news story, dated 6 October 2021, where Hon. Josef Onoh, the Chairman of Enugu Capital Territory Development Authority (ECTDA) threatened that alutaexpress.com either delete a certain factual report from its database or face intimidation.
Another politician, Hon. Chidi Victor, the Councillor representing Nenwe ward 1 (Aninri, Enugu) sent a letter, 28 October 2021, through one Mr. Ikenna Nweke who claimed to be a lawyer.

After unsuccessfully trying to lure the editor to come to a certain place on the night of 27th October, he had sent the letter where he said that our company must indemnify Hon. Chidi with the sum of N100,000,000 (One hundred million naira) or face “their wrath”. According to him, his group has been tracking Mr Jude Ogbonna for over a month and now has every data about him.


A Luta (alutaexpress.com) is an online news outlet with a focus on Enugu State politics. It was founded in 2019 and has been run in the format of a personal blog.
