The Ugly Nature of Godfatherism in Awka South By, D.C Chase
The Idea of Godfatherism on display in a society, with unapologetic reference to Awka south, is one that has dealt unfavorably with the supposed promising expectations of it’s political inhabitants. This cankerworm which is deep eating the fabrics of the political setting of Awka South, is also clad with the capability of tearing down an already existing feat, as well as frustrate the supposed existence of a deserving project, hence; the reason Omotosho Omotayo opined that, “godfatherism can’t win constantly, instead, it destroys, and tear down what one is supposed to uphold”
The hijack of power by some unscrupulous entity in the aforementioned district obviously, has amounted to the impediment of democracy in the area, as an affair originally meant to be ran based on collective contribution, and benefit is in control of one force, whose growing urge is to be in total control of power; pragmatically, spelling out the fact that, absolute power corrupts absolutely.
Regrettably, the issue of godfatherism in Awka South is like the somewhat strange scenario of a boy confidently dancing to no music in a space, while others watch with disarray, yet somewhere in the bushes there is sound of music accompanying his dance steps. This idea can be found in the political terrain of the district under discuss; where some mischief makers, with shallow or no sort of moral judgement, or conviction are strongly empowered, to exhibit their criminal tactics to their benefits, and that of their sponsors, to the detriment of the Innocents.
The abuse of power by these unscrupulous forces, is seen in their vicious act of monopolizing government’s Internally Generated Revenue (IGR), which was rather used for frivolities, such as; sponsoring political thugs, to propagate discomfort and carry out deadly activities, who in turn become an almost non detachable menace to society, thereby causing stunt growth to the economy, and automatically breeding hardship in the society, with little or no concern to initiate and perpetuate solution by those concern.
Unfortunately, this political sect of less moral sense, which has monopolized power, among other unfavorable activities mated on it’s constituency, under government cover also succeeded in imposing Anambra State House of assembly members (ASHA) on the constituency.
The question which poses burden to my heart, which I believe could be same with those who crave for better and favorable experience are: Ndi Awka South, how could we allow a monopoly of power broker, is it that, there are no viable men in Awka South? or have we all bee n bought over directly or indirectly. Just as no man is perfect so is all of his actions. So you can’t tell me that this one man is perfect in hand picking, who oversees the affairs of the constituency is better of, who does so for his own personal interest. Ndi Awka South, let’s rise and claim that which will benefit all, as we shun godfatherism.
