The Solution To Nigeria’s Problem Could Be Found In Her Currency

When we complain of bad roads, lack of clean drinking water and electricity, we blame those in government. When we talk of even African time, we blame those in government. When we talk of even disobedience at the lights, we blame those in government. When we talk of even jumping the queue at banks or other appropriate public places, we blame those in government.

While doing this one thing is clear. Before the senator became a senator we all belonged and still belong to the same constituency (he or she was one of us and still one of us). Before the President became the President we all belonged and still belong to rhe same constituency (he was one of us and still one of us) and so on.

We all voted them into various political positions and now we are complaining and we have our litany of reasons. We are complaining because they are not giving a good account of themselves while in office. We are complaining because they are negligent. We are complaining because they are selfish, greedy, unreasonably proud, ignorant, and inconsiderate and so on.

These men and women in office with the different deficiencies mentioned above can be compared to different naira notes haphazardly arranged. If we form the habit of arranging our naira notes beautifully before taking them to the cashier’s desk, a cashier at the bank will return our notes to us in the beautiful fashion they received them without any form of rearrangement. This will happen always not sometimes whenever we are in need of money from the bank.

When the idea of arranging our naira notes came to me I was busy searching for physical benefits, and not paying attention to any spiritual benefits.

Now, because wrong people have been voted into office it looks like we are crying over spilt milk. Of course we are. That’s exactly what we are doing and now we are desperately looking for a solution.

I am here to tell you that the solution can be found in our naira notes.

Similarly, just like the naira notes beautifully arranged before proceeding to the bank, the character of those in government should have been formed when they were still at home before being elected or voted into office and not after they have been elected or voted into office. .

Again, like the naira notes returned to the depositor as deposited, those in government will now hopefully compensate their constituencies with fulfilled promises.

Now, if we all think that we don’t have the time (as most of us do) to arrange our naira notes before taking them to the bank, are we not pretending? Yes, we are! Someone is benefitting from this non arrangement of our naira notes.

I assure you if we can take the time to arrange our naira notes beautifully before taking them to the bank, most of our problems will be solved. Garbage in, garbage out. However, one thing is clear.

Doing so doesn’t promise us a perfect society. No generation in history has ever sought for a perfect society unless what is perfect is defined

Nevertheless, taking the time to arrange our naira notes is a good beginning. Let’s start doing it and hope for a better country.
