THE SOLE NARRATIVE PHENOMENON IN THE ANAMBRA GUBER SEASON

0

Each other factor has been made an issue in this campaign, except “Political Leadership Experience”.

Of all the aspirants to the prime seat of governance in Anambra State, only one of them had practical leadership experience in a political office.

Sen. Andy Ubah has behind his promises to the people of the State, a robust 8 years of experience in the inner workings of a democratic government, at the highest level in the country.

His strategic location in the 8 years of Obasanjo’s administration, clearly prepared him for the post of a state governor and more.

What is more, he also has another 8 solid years experience on the workings of the Legislature side of politics, and so at the highest level in our country.

Conversely, none of the other frontline candidates had ever had an iota of experience in the workings of an executive arm in a democracy.

All we have on offer from the other candidates, with every possible respect, are tons of degrees and claims of having held top corporate positions.

If this were a race for the Vice Chancellorship of a University, one would have understood the place of these vaunted degrees.

As for the corporate guru singsong, an autocratic corporate position, where profiteering is the sole objective, is hardly a training ground for an aspiring leader in a democratic setting, where the welfare of the people is the prime objective.

A medical doctor who agitates for inclusion in our Super Eagles team, on the basis of his medical professional certificate, would get curious looks from bystanders.

No doubt, some of the candidates in this election may have loads of good intention, but if wishes were horses….

The most important parameter in choosing a governor is political leadership experience, and Andy Ubah is light years ahead of the pack in this regard.

The constitution intended the governor to be an experienced facilitator; hence, the constitution does not place a limit on the number of aides (Commissioners et al) that a governor may appoint in order to facilitate good governance.

A state governor can recruit tons of PhD holders to advise him, but he cannot hire the experience that he needs to manage his State. You only acquire experience through a learning process.

Unfortunately, there is no substitute for experience in political leadership, and the INEC Certificate of Return is not a Learner’s Permit.
