Terror Heats Up: ISWAP Ambush Nigerian Soldier’s,Kills Their Top Major.

Nigerian troops fighting Boko Haram and its splinter faction Islamic State West Africa Provence (ISWAP), have suffered another setback in its counterinsurgency operations.

HumAngle has learned that the troops of operation Lafiya Dole were attacked in Doksa Damboa local government of Borno

Dozens of casualties were recorded and a Major was also killed in the incident. A number of combat support equipment was lost to the insurgents.

The military operation tagged Lafiya Dole is engaged in a decade long counterinsurgency campaign against insurgent groups in Northeast Nigeria.

The incident happened days after the military began to push ahead with its new subsidiary Operation Fireball to target insurgents in the dreaded Timbuktu triangle, Sambisa Forest, Mandara Mountains and the Lake Chad region.

In March, the Nigerian Army moved into the Timbuktu Triangle in Alargano forest area, which has remained under the control of the ISWAP fighters despite sustained military offensive to retake it, to clear suspected ISWAP positions.

However, soldiers faced stiff resistance and challenges from ambushes and Improvised explosive devices and more recently, the negative impact of the rainy season.

In September, the Brigade Commander 25 Task Force Brigade based in the Army Super Camp 2 in Damboa was ambushed alongside his troops, he died after undergoing a medical procedure.
