The military government claimed that they will use the three years to review the foundation of Malian state. As expected, the leader of the military transitional government will be called the Head of State. The transitional government will be mainly made up soldiers. The Leaders of the military government of Mali is led by Colonel Assimi Goita.

After the latest coup in Mali, the military government which seized power in Mali after a successful coup have revealed their intentions to hand over power after 3 years.

The military men disclosed that they will hand over power after a military transitional body have ruled for three years. According to the coup Plotters, the deposed President Ibrahim Boubacar Keita will be released from detention.

The military government of Mali made their intentions known during a meeting with an ECOWAS delegation sent to Mali to negotiate handover of government to a constitutionally elected civilian.

The ECOWAS delegates were led by Nigeria’s former president, Goodluck Jonathan. The meeting was held begin closed doors and discussions are expect to continue on Monday, August 24, 2020.

After 9 hours of negotiations on Sunday, Goodluck Ebele Johnathan told reporters that some agreement were made but the two parties haven’t agreed on everything yet.

However, Johnathan did not disclose what they have agreed on and what they disagreed on. The military government of Mali agreed to let the deposed president of Mali to go back to his home at Bamako. They promised to also allow him to travel abroad for medical treatment.

The coup was made possible following months of protests calling for Keita to resign as public expressed their unhappiness with the government of Mali.

The country had been facing a harsh economic and political crisis before protest began some months back. This latest Malian coup is the second in 8 years.
