Tension in Ngige’s Hometown, Violence Plot To Banish Anambra Monarch.

Alor community, the hometown of Dr. Chris Ngige, the minister of labour and employment, has alleged a plot to hire thugs to cause violence over the call to banish its monarch, Igwe MacAnthoy Okonkwo.

According to The Nation, this was revealed in a petition on Friday, September 4, signed by the Public Relation’s Officer PRO of Alor People’s Assembly (APA), Maduka Oyedu.

The community pleading that the thugs should be stopped asked security agencies to come to their aid in the petition sent to Anambra state governor, Willie Obiano, commissioner of police and Department of Security Service (DSS) state director.

According to the residents, it was alerting the public of the plot and to be wary of group, whose intention was to cause mayhem against Obiano.

The petition reads: “The Alor People’s Assembly (A.P.A.) executives are not aware of the planned mayhem and will never be in support any evil plan by any group of miscreants or their associates.

“We want to put the public on Notice that the group of people who have planned to storm the community on Saturday are not from Alor community.

“And we the people of Alor are calling on our amiable Executive Governor of Anambra, Chief (Dr) Willie Obiano (Akpokuedike -Aguleri), the State Commissioner of Police, Mr. John Abang, and the State Director, DSS to keep their eyes on the planned mayhem in our community on Saturday, 5th September, 2020.”

It was gathered that the traditional ruler of Alor was one of the the monarchs suspended  by the Anambra state government for traveling without permission to meet President Muhammadu Buhari in Abuja.

However, residents of Alor protested against the monarch and demanded that he be banished.

The monarch was quoted to have confessed his sins, asking the governor to forgive him. Okonkwo who hails from Idemili South local government area of Anambra state, openly apologised to Obiano and the traditional rulers’ council for violating certain rules guiding the operation of monarchs in the state.

Other monarchs, however, insisted the governor has no right to meddle in their fundamental rights in any way as custodians of the people.

Ngige on Wednesday, September 2, described the famous Anambra oil magnate as a fair-weather politician.

The minister had advised Governor Willie Obiano of Anambra state to relocate the 12 traditional rulers suspended by the state government from their communities to avert breach of peace.
