A group, Justice Development and Peace Caritas (JDPC), Onitsha, Anambra State, has called for pro-active synergy among security agencies to improve security ahead of the 2023 general elections. Project Manager, Mr. Alphonsus Nwoye, made the call during an advocacy visit to the office of the Commandant, National Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Awka, the state capital. Nwoye said the group, in collaboration with Foreign Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO), implemented projects during the 2021 Anambra governorship election toward achieving non-violent, free, fair election.

He regretted some anomalies, including vote buying and ballot box snatching observed during the exercise, arguing that such negative vices would not have occurred if there was proactive security management. Nwoye also advocated collaborative security management and enforcement of the Electoral Offences and Penalties Act, to improve the integrity of electoral process in the country.

He said, “We have also noticed the rate of drug abuse, cultism and restiveness among youths. Some of them even harass residents while enforcing the Monday sit-at-home order. Security surveillance and synergy is required to mitigate these criminal activities, especially as we prepare for the general elections in 2023.
