Professor Wole Soyinka has condemned the Nigerian government’s reintroduction of the Bill on National Water Resources 2020 to the National Assembly.

Premium Times reports that the Nobel laureate made his position on the bill known in a statement on Thursday, August 27.

Soyinka warned that if the bill is passed into law, it would hand the Nigerian president “absolute control over the nation’s entire water resources, both over and underground.

He said that the bill had been earlier dropped about two years ago due to public outrage was now being reintroduced by the “failed government” with the consent of the National Assembly.
