Soludo to grace 2nd LG Economic Summit

Prof. Charles Soludo, a former governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) is expected to deliver a paper at the 2nd local government economic summit billed for the Merit House, Abuja from Sept. 26 to Sept. 27.


This is contained in a statement by Mrs Oluwakemi Enahoro, the Deputy Director, Committee Clerk, National Assembly in Abuja on Thursday.
Enahoro said that the summit was being organised by the Senate Committee on State and local government administration in collaboration with Civil-Pact Nigeria.
“The summit is being organised by the Senate Committee on State and local government administration in collaboration with Civil-Pact Nigeria with focus on research and advocacy in issues affecting local government administration and grassroots development in Nigeria.

“The event is scheduled to hold from Monday, Sept. 26 to Thursday, Sept. 27 at Merit House, Abuja, with a theme “Investing in Rural Poor for Shared Prosperity through the Local Government System”.
“The summit is meant for local government chairmen, council leaders and other vital local government stakeholders in Nigeria.
“It is aimed at galvanising institutional supports for local government to enable them help the active rural poor to gain access to credit for improved farming activities and scale up rural enterprise development,” she said.


Enahoro said that Kogi deputy governor, Chief Edward Onoja, would also deliver a paper at the event.
“Institutions such as Small and Medium Scale Enterprise Development Agency (SMEDAN),Development Bank of Nigeria (DBN), NIRSAI Micro Finance Bank, Nigerian Investment Promotion Commission (NIPC), are slated to present practical steps by which the rural poor can be supported through the local government system.
“Former CBN Charles Soludo and Kogi deputy governor Chief Edward Onoja will be guest speakers at the event.

“Soludo, also Anambra governor will speak on “Disruptive Innovation thinking, local government system and the future of Nigerian economy, while Onoja would speak on the local government system and the destiny of rural poor in Nigeria,” she said.(NAN)
