SOLUDO SETS UP COMMITTEE TO ADDRESS SALARY CUTS, INTRODUCES TECH-BASED ATTENDANCE MONITORING FOR ANAMBRA WORKERS
The Anambra State Government says it will set up an implementation committee to resolve salary cuts affecting some state civil servants in the area.
The government will also deploy technology to monitor workplace attendance.
Governor Chukwuma Soludo announced this during the 2026 Workers’ Day celebration in Awka, the state capital with the theme “Insecurity, Poverty: Bane of Decent Work,”
The event provided a platform to address economic challenges and ensure that workers’ voices remain central to recovery, reform, and sustainable development.Acknowledging the contributions of workers in the state, Governor Soludo said the issue of employees whose salaries were reduced for absenteeism would be reviewed and resolved fairly.He urged workers to be the change they want to see while advocating for responsible unionism.Governor Soludo further assured Anambra workers that the state government will recruit more teachers into public schools as soon as possible.
In his remarks, State Chairman of the Nigeria Labour Congress, NLC, Comrade Humphrey Nwafor, praised the Soludo administration for its pro-worker policies, including regular salary payments, minimum wage implementation, and the payment of gratuities to retirees.
He however called for faster action to improve working conditions across all states.
Also speaking, the Chairman Trade Union Congress of Nigeria, Anambra State Council, Comrade Chris Ogbonna commended the state government for clearing the gratuities owned to retirees and as well prompt payment of workers salaries .
The TUC Chairman while lamenting that some federal workers are yet to receive their April Salary,noted that the situation is capable of subjecting workers to frustration or even depression in view of the economic situation of the country.
He advised that workers should be paid as at when due to ensure optimal performance for nation’s speedy development.Deputy Governor Dr. Onyekachukwu Ibezim and Speaker of the State House of Assembly Rt. Hon. Somtochukwu Udeze were among dignitaries present at the celebration, which featured a march past by various trade unions and civil service groups.
