Solskjaer admits he doesn’t regret selling Lukaku

Manchester United coach Ole Gunnar Solskjaer doesn’t regret letting Romelu Lukaku, Alexis Sanchez and Ashley Young move to Inter and claims he would do the same again.

The Nerazzurri signed Lukaku and loaned Sanchez last summer, before they picked up Young in January, but the Norwegian coach has claimed he wouldn’t change anything if he could go back in time.

Manchester United never replaced Lukaku outright and initially struggled to fill the void left by the Belgian goalscorer, but the recent form has made them forget about the big names who left for pastures new.

“This isn’t a popularity contest, that’s for sure,” Solskjaer said at a press conference. “I have to make decisions I think are for the benefit of the club.

“The decisions we made last summer and in January, bringing players in and allowing players to move on, in my mind they were always for the good of the club and the team, both in giving youngsters a chance and trust the other ones, accepting that some players have been great servants to the club.

“I would still make the same decision if I can go back six or 12 months.”

Lukaku has been an important member of the Nerazzurri this term, contributing 20 goals in 30 Serie A games in 2019-20.
