SHEIKH SANI YAHAYA JINGIR’S REMARKS: A WAKE UP CALL FOR CONSCIENCE, JUSTICE, AND GOOD GOVERNANCE

The recent public comments by Sheikh Sani Yahaya Jingir have stirred national conversation.

According to the Sheikh

1. Every Christian in Nigeria is an infidel, including all the Christians supporting Tinubu and those working for him.
2. He said that the Muslim-Muslim ticket must be supported at all costs because Nigeria is an Islamic nation.
3. He said that anyone who does not support the Muslim-Muslim ticket can leave the country.
4. He said that all Muslims in the country must ensure that a Christian, an infidel, must never become Nigeria’s president again because Nigeria is an Islamic nation.

These are the words of Sheikh Sani Yahaya Jingir, the National Chairman of Jama’ atu Izalatil Bid’ a Wa’ ikamatis Sunnah (JIBWIS).

Many Nigerians know that some of these issues are discussed privately among religious teachers. The fact that they are now in the open should not make us angry. It should make us alert. It is a wake up call for believers in Christ.

As a Christian leader and as the Labour Party Senatorial Candidate for Anambra Central, my response is guided by the Scriptures:
Matthew 5:44 — “But I say to you, love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you.”
Romans 12:21 — “Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good.”

These verses call us to truth, courage, and nation-building, not bitterness.

This is a Wake Up Call for the following:

1. Accountability of our Lawmakers
   A wake up call to reject and vote out any Senator who kept silent when the preaching of the Gospel was categorized and equated to “hawking”. The Constitution guarantees freedom of religion and freedom of expression for all Nigerians. Any public official who cannot defend those rights does not deserve a seat in the National Assembly.
2. Defense of Human Life
   A wake up call to reject leaders who keep silent in the face of killings and violence against any Nigerian, including the ongoing attacks and genocide against Christians in parts of the country. Bloodshed is evil, no matter who the victims are. Leadership is about protecting every life.
3. Conscience at the Ballot
   A wake up call for citizens not to sell our votes for cash or gifts. “No more stomach infrastructure. Demand structures, not ₦5,000, ₦10,000 or ₦20,000.” When we sell our votes, we empower leaders who will sell our future.
4. Constitutional Review
   A wake up call for a sincere review of our Constitution to ensure clarity, fairness, and unity. Nigeria operates a secular Constitution, but concerns exist where practices appear to run parallel to it. We need one Nigeria, one Constitution, and equal rights for all citizens under the law.
5. Electing God-Fearing Leaders
   A wake up call to elect God-fearing leaders with courage to repeal obnoxious and discriminatory laws wherever they exist, including laws being practiced in places like Sokoto State that conflict with constitutional freedoms. Leaders must govern with justice and the fear of God.

The Labour Party stands for RESCUE. RESULTS. REPRESENTATION. Not RECEIVE. REGRET. REPEAT.
We will not buy votes. We will earn them with service. We earned it in Abia State and we can do the same in Anambra Central.

Nigeria belongs to all of us. Our faiths are different, but our destiny is one. Let us overcome evil with good.

May God heal our land and give us leaders of courage and conviction.
