See why Ebonyi APC Publicity Secretary was arrested

The Publicity Scribe of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Ebonyi State, Chika Nwoba, has been arraigned before a Magistrate Court Abakaliki, for allegedly publishing false information on the social media against the Chieftain of the Party and Lawmaker representing Ikwo/Ezza South Federal Constituency, Hon. Chinedu Ogah.

Nwoba was arraigned on one count charge of giving false information on the social media with the intent to cause fear, harm and breach of public peace.

The Police Prosecutor, SP Ayeni, told the court that the accused committed the offence on 26th day of December 2019 and 29th March 2020, which was punishable under section 59(1) of the criminal code Cap.33 Vol.1 Law of Ebonyi State of Nigeria, 2009.

“That you Chika Nwoba ‘M’ on 26th December 2019 and 29th day of March, 2020, in Abakaliki, in the jurisdiction of this honourable Court did publish on Facebook, statements against Hon. (Comrade) Chinedu Ogah OON, which are likely to cause fear and harm to the public or to disturb the public peace, knowing or having reason to believe that such statements are false and thereby commmitted an offence punishable under under section 59(1) of the criminal code Cap.33 Vol.1 Law of Ebonyi State of Nigeria, 2009”, the charge read.

The defense counsel, Barr. J.N Nweke, however, pleaded with the court to grant him bail, on self recognition as APC publicity scribe.

But the Police Prosecutor, SP Ayeni, urged the court not to grant him bail, describing the accused as dangerous and was capable of breaching public peace.

In her ruling, the Chief Magistrate, Nnenna Onuoha, granted the accused N100,000 bail and one Surety in like sum.

The Surety must be residing within the jurisdiction of the court, and must swear an affidavit proving he/she knows the accused to be of good conduct, according to the Magistrate.

“The surety must also get a letter of introduction from the highest Traditional Ruler of his/her place certifying that he/she is a native of the community”, she added.

She adjourned the matter till May 25th 2020, for the commencement of hearing.
