Security Team Records Major Operation in Anambra, Recovers Weapons and Other Items
A police-led joint security patrol team in Aguata Sector has recorded a major breakthrough following an operation along the Ogboji–Ajalli Road in Orumba South Local Government Area of Anambra State on the evening of June 23, 2026.
According to the Anambra State Police Command, the operation followed credible intelligence on the movement of a suspected armed group operating within the area. During the security response, four suspected gang members were brought down, while several items were recovered from the scene.
Items reportedly recovered include a General Purpose Machine Gun (GPMG) with linked ammunition, two AK-47 rifles, magazines, rounds of ammunition, four undetonated improvised explosive devices, police camouflage items, a white Toyota Sienna bus, mobile phones, a laptop, a POS machine, power banks, ATM cards, an identification card, a driver’s licence and other materials.
Police said preliminary findings suggest that some members of the group escaped into nearby bushes, prompting an intensified search operation across the area.
The Command added that the operation formed part of ongoing visibility and confidence-building patrols aimed at improving safety and responding to intelligence on criminal activity in the state.
The Anambra State Police Command reaffirmed its commitment, alongside other security agencies, to sustaining intelligence-driven operations to protect lives and maintain peace across the state.
