Hon. Osita Nwoye, The Senior Special Assistant to the Governor of Anambra State has called for more synergy between religious leaders and security agencies and the State government citing that the Clergy and the church cannot afford to stand aloof when issues affecting the stability of the State and nation at large are at stake.

He made this disclosure while reacting to the recent petition by the Elders of Awka Community against an Onitsha based Cleric, Prophet Chukwuemeka Ohamaemere whom they alleged that his statement against their cultural deity is capable of causing a security breach and truncating the relative peace which the Anambra state is experiencing.

Hon. Osita Nwoye declared that his office will engage religious leaders in the State to calm all nerves and ensure the sustainance of the gains made by His Excellency Chief Sir. Willie Obiano in ensuring that there is peace and tranquillity in the State.

”the prevalent security problems experienced in our nation justifies the role of religion in
sustaining peace and security in Nigeria. Religion is a potent force to achieve political stability, peace and security in the land,

”Religion regulates the conduct and behavior of people in the society, and preaches vital virtues needed in the nation. The religious sermons that are preached in churches are all efforts geared towards modifying the behaviour of the people positively in the society”

”The counseling done by Church leaders is a way in which the society can be made to maintain peace and security in the
nation”.

Hon Osita Nwoye further advocated that religious institutions and leaders should have some defined roles to play in the maintenance of peace and security in Nigeria because religion has a powerful influence on the activities of members of the society, whether they are Christians, Muslims or African Traditional worshipers.
