ActionAid Trains Anambra Youths on Climate Action

In a bold move towards a climate-resilient future, ActionAid Nigeria has equipped young people from four local government areas in Anambra State with comprehensive training on climate action and policy advocacy.

The three-day capacity-building workshop, held at Hilton Leisure Hotel, Awka, aimed to strengthen the capacity of youths in advancing the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly in the context of climate change.

Participants from Orumba North, Orumba South, Awka North, and Awka South LGAs engaged in interactive sessions on climate change, its impacts, and the critical role of youths in driving climate action. Expert facilitators also covered policy influencing, resource mobilization, and effective engagement with government initiatives on climate action.

Speaking at the event, Blessing Ifemenam, the Programme Advisor for SPA II, Nigeria, described youths as critical stakeholders in the fight against climate change.

Hence she said “Empowering them with the necessary skills and knowledge will ensure a sustainable and climate-resilient future for all.”

She also stated that with the training, ActionAid Nigeria has reaffirmed its dedication to supporting climate justice and youth empowerment, ensuring that no one is left behind in the pursuit of a sustainable future.

The training culminated in participants’ commitment to applying their newfound expertise to real-life situations, pledging to champion climate action in their respective communities.
