Anambra State Sector Commander of the Federal Roads Safety Corp,Andrew Kumakpayi says the state has recorded 80 percent increase in number of road crashes in various parts of the state over the past three months.

He described the sharp rise as alarming even as he attributed it to recklessness by tipper drivers on the road.

He added that the situation had prompted the State House of Assembly to pass a resolution directing his office to check their excesses which often lead to avoidable accidents on roads.

The Sector Commander, then, issued a two weeks ultimatum to tipper drivers to fix their vehicles, update licenses and effect attitudinal changes in order to check the situation.

He noted that a joint task force would be set up by the state command in conjuction with tipper drivers associations to commence enforcement of the directive.

Responding, the State Chairman, Heavy Duty Vehicles Drivers Association, Mr Ozoemena Okoye, pledged to transmit outcome of the meeting to his members and to support every intervention measure aimed at reducing road crashes in the state.
