The 27 lawmakers of the Rivers State House of Assembly, led by Speaker Martin Amaewhule, have expressed support for President Bola Tinubu’s declaration of a state of emergency, calling it the “best decision” for the state.

In a statement signed by Amaewhule, the lawmakers blamed Governor Siminalayi Fubara for the crisis, accusing him of disregarding court rulings and obstructing the Assembly from functioning.

“The governor’s despotic and tyrannical actions, as confirmed by the courts, led to this situation. He has continuously violated his oath of office and the Constitution,” the statement read.

Despite their suspension from legislative duties for six months, the lawmakers assured their constituents of their commitment to the state’s stability.
