Rights Group Sympathises With Onitsha Fire Victims

A human rights Organization, Civil Liberties Organization, CLO, Anambra State branch, Monday, sympathised with victims of the horrendous and devastating fire disaster that occurred in the early hours of Monday, at Kano street, Main Market which destroyed wares estimated into millions of naira.

In a press statement signed and issued to newsmen by the CLO chairman, Comrade Vincent Ezekwueme, and his secretariy, Chidi Mbah, they said such was a great loss at this period of unprecedented economic hardship, and described it as most painful, unbearable and pathetic.

“We call on the fire fighting service personnel to be more proactive and live up to their responsibilities and always keep their vehicles and fire fighting equipment in good form.

We appeal to government to device strategic plans and approach towards curtailing incessant fire disaster in the state.

“We equally, most passionately appeal to government, Federal Emergency Management Agency, State Emergency Management Agency, public spirited individuals and corporate organizations, members of National Assembly and State House of Assembly from the affected area, to come to the rescue of the victims to ameliorate their pathetic predicament, as some of them lost everything both cash and goods,” he pleaded.

Recall that no life was lost in the fire incident that commenced about 2am Monday even as properties estimated into millions of naira were destroyed by the raging inferno.
