RESTORATION OF LOST GLORY OF UMUNZE MY TOP PRIORITY……NEW PG

The New President -General of Umunze Progressive Union in Orumba South Local Government Area of Anambra State, Sir Engr. Iheazu Onyinyechukwu, has identified restoration of lasting peace and lost glory of the community as some of the top priorities of his leadership in the area.

Sir Engr. Onyinyechukwu, who said that the election that produced him as the new President -General of Umunze community which he described as the largest town in Orumba North and South was held on Seventh January, 2024 and by God’s Grace and the people of the Town he emerged the winner of the election, describing the election as free, fair and credible.

The New President -General, who made this known during press interview in Awka, the Capital City of Anambra State, said that as a matter of fact that in the last twenty years or more Umunze had no elected President -General, but had been operating under the acting or caretaker committees, which he overtly stated was not recognized by the people and the Government.

He pointed out that there was a time he was a treasurer of one of the caretaker committees they had then, but argued that Government do not recognize caretaker committee, rather the substantive President -General who could execute any project he has for his community.

While adding that his number one priority was to restore peace in Umunze, the President -General, revealed that all these years the community had lost its glory, but assured the people that they are committed to restore it, pointing out that so far , that there were so many programmes in Umunze initiated by his leadership.

Since his Government cannot finish works in the community at once, the President -General, Sir, Engr Onyinyechukwu, said that they would begin with reviewing the constitution of the town which according to him was drafted in 1982, saying that a committee has been set up to that effect.

He equally noted that they have also set up so many committees to include, works, health, recovery and assets , agric, revenue, security among others all with the aim of easing the administration of the community, even as he said that his leadership is desirous of erecting a befitting Secretariat for the community as well as rehabilitate the dilapidated and vandalized town hall built and handed over to the community by one of the philanthropic individuals in the community for assemblage of the town and proper utilization of some offices by the officials of the Union.

The President -General, further, maintained that they have projects on hospitals, security and schools in the area, which he said were all dilapidated and that they are working round the clock to put them back to shape, adding that above all the projects,was restoration of peace in the town by his government.

On security, he disclosed that there was a time ,the security apparatus of the town was threatened, but by God’s grace it had been controlled, saying that his tenure is just three years, but he wants to use it to lay a solid foundation so that when others take over from him they would start building on the foundation.

He affirmed that they are working very close with the youth wing of the town, which he described as the foot soldiers of the community as well as the women wing with a view to developing a synergy among the three groups in order to further the cause of the town, advising the people to rally round his leadership while commending the major stakeholders of the town for all they are doing to ensure that there was peace in the community.

The New President -General, who retired as a Deputy Director in the Federal Ministry of Water Resources, Abuja, urged the people not to hesitate in contributing their time, energy, money, positive advise and every other things within their reach in an effort by his administration in restoring the battered image of the town as the biggest community in Orumba North and South Local Government Areas.

The Present -General who spoke among other things , emphasized that he was with the Commissioner for health, Dr. Afam Obidike last week to discuss on a better way to equip the general hospital of the town and the Commissioner for Local Government, Chieftaincy, and Community Matters, Mr. TonyCollins Nwabunwanne whom he said that they were busy doing their own thing for the good of the town as well as the Commissioner for works among others.

He made it very clear that the Governor’s recent visit to the community was through the instrumentality of the Member representing Orumba North and South Federal Constituency in the Federal House of Representatives, Abuja , Princess Chinwe Nnabuife, during his thanksgiving service at his home town, which he confirmed that afford them an opportunity to present a compiled list of seven roads in the community to the Governor for construction as he demanded from Princess Nnabuife.
