“Respect Royal Stools”, Ohanaeze Ndigbo Asks Traditional Rulers, Lauds Obiano On Achievements

Anambra State Chapter of Ohaneze Ndigbo has urged stakeholders in the state to avoid actions that could overheat the polity and create opportunity for few individuals to hijack the power structure and hold the people in political hostage.

The Chairman of Ohaneze Ndigbo in Anambra State, Chief Damian Okeke-Ogene, disclosed this in a press briefing in Awka.

Correspondent, Blessing Uchendu reports that while addressing the press, Chief Okeke-Ogene who noted that the Organization was concerned about what it described as the misunderstanding between few traditional rulers and the state government, advised the royal fathers to emulate the conduct of the chairman of Anambra State Traditional Rulers Council and Obi of Onitsha, Igwe Alfred Achebe, the grand patron of the council and traditional ruler of Nnewi, Igwe Kenneth Orizu, and other notable royal fathers in the state to avoid confrontation stance against the state government.

He also noted that it was necessary to follow laid down processes in channeling grievances to appropriate authority and urged those in question to avoid sending wrong signal to the outside world.

While congratulating Governor Willie Obiano who attained sixty-five years over the weekend, the Organization commended the Governor’s remarkable achievements in various sectors including security, agriculture, infrastructure, education, health and other legacy projects including the Cargo Airport at Umueri and the International Conference Centre in Awka, observing that these interventions would impact on lives and stimulate sustainable development across the state.

Chief Okeke-Ogene also commended Governor Obiano’s efforts in managing and controlling the coronavirus pandemic in Anambra State, noting that his proactive measures till date have minimized the spread of the virus, leaving the state as one of the least affected in the country.

He pointed out that the stimulus packages distributed to various groups during the lockdown brought a lot of relief to the people and saved many lives, and also praised ndi Anambra for their positive response and compliance to the safety protocols and urged them to remain vigilant as the disease has not left yet.

Speaking on national events, the Anambra State Chairman of Ohaneze Ndigbo, reassured that the group would sustain the drive to actualize Nigeria’s president of Igbo extraction come 2023.

Chief Okeke-Ogene also expressed concern over the increasing insecurity and corruption in the country, and urged the federal government to show more seriousness in fighting corruption as recent events have shown a failure in the aniti-corruption war.
