Residents Of Onitsha Send SOS To FG For Onitsha – Owerri Road Rehabilitation

Nigerians residing and doing business in the commercial city of Onitsha and environs have called on the federal government to commence the rehabilitation of Onitsha-Owerri road, to alleviate the plight of the motoring public.

They made the plea when Newsmen visited the Awada area, where they described Owerri Road as a death trap to commuters and motorists.

The trunk A road, linking the rest of the country to most parts of South-East region, is seen as critical to economic development.

Odogwublog learnt that the road which had cut off around Nwaziki street, Awada, usually cause gridlock and hampers movement in the area, especially in morning hours.

The ugly situation has also affected traffic situation at Ezeiweka-Oraifite street bye-pass, Awada with dangerous pot holes.

Lamenting the untold hardship occasioned by the bad road, the chairman, Old Motor Parts Dealers Association, Obosi, Chief Samuel Ezeobodo decried the adverse effects of the road on sicio-econoic activities, recounting several losses and damages as a result of incessant falling of heavy duty and articulated vehicles along the road.

Contributing, some motorists, including Messrs Elendu Chukwu and Hyginus Nsofor expressed dismay that the deplorable nature of the road has lingered for over two years.

On his part, a stakeholder, Mr. Celestine Ezewuru while saying the state is well known for trade and commerce, maintained that transportation and good road network are essential in boosting business as well as revenue profile of the government and the citizenry.
