Reno Omokri Praises Abuja Highway, Sparks Debate Over Nigeria’s Infrastructure Progress
Nigerian Diplomat Reno Omokri, has stirred conversation online after praising the quality of a Nigerian highway and urging citizens to recognize the country’s infrastructural progress.
In a post shared on his social media platforms, Omokri displayed a video of a smooth, well-laid road reportedly located in Abuja, highlighting its modern features such as clear lane markings, good drainage, and an apparently well-maintained surface. He argued that the road meets international standards and reflects the level of development achievable within Nigeria.
Accompanying the video, he challenged critics of the country to make comparisons, stating that many Nigerians are quick to dismiss local achievements while praising similar infrastructure abroad. He called on citizens to “appreciate Nigeria,” insisting that some of the country’s roads can compete with those found in more developed nations.
The statement quickly gained traction online, drawing mixed reactions from the public. Supporters agreed with Omokri, noting that certain highways, particularly in Abuja and other major cities, have seen significant improvements in recent years due to government investments in road construction and rehabilitation.
However, critics pushed back, arguing that while isolated examples of quality roads exist, they do not reflect the general condition of infrastructure across the country. Many pointed out that numerous roads in rural areas and even some urban centers remain in poor condition, raising concerns about uneven development.
Omokri’s remarks have once again highlighted the ongoing debate over Nigeria’s infrastructure, balancing visible progress in some regions with persistent challenges in others.
