Regent urges Oba people to disregard pronouncements from purported “concerned citizens”

The Regent of Oba community in Idemili South Local Government Area, Anambra State, Prince Noel Ezenwa has urged Oba people to ignore the recent pronouncements of a group which call themselves ” Concerned Citizens of Oba” convening meetings for immediate town union election.

Primce Noel Ezenwa (Ezeamalu Oba) stated that the pending Oba Patriotic Union (OPU) election has been scheduled for Easter General Assembly, 2023.

According to Prince Ezenwa,’Concerned Citizens’ is a faceless organization not courageous enough to be identified with telling the truth, rather hiding behind lies. They lack the constitutional rights to neither make such pronouncements nor convene meetings to institute a committee for OPU election.

In a press release/public announcement signed by the Regent of Oba, Prince Noel Ezenwa stated that the so called ” concerned citizen” were trying to scuttle all the genuine efforts the Oba leadership had employed to keep the community on the right track.

“Since I became the Regent of Oba, I have tried to maintain the letters and spirit of our Constitutions( the OPU and EzeOkpoko) which I observed does not go down well with some individuals.

“These person’s or so called ” concerned citizens have vowed to set Oba on fire and confusion by throwing our Constitution overboard in order to achieve their selfish interests but God and Ani Oba will not allow them to succeed.

“Please ignore any announcements emanating from the so called ‘concerned citizens’ who has no constitutional power or authority to constitute or convene a meeting on behalf of the OPU.

” Oba is peaceful and secure. 0ur Constitution remains sacrosanct and supreme.

“In view of the pending election of the OPU, the election is hereby scheduled for Easter General Assembly, 2023 when the current PG’s tenure will have expired.

“The President General will in due course constitute and inaugurate the Electoral committee in accordance with the OPU Constitution (Vide chapter 3 page 12 ff).

“The Umuogali village/zone is expected to nominate legitimate person(s) for the office of the President General. All other offices will be vied for in accordance with the prior agreement of our zoning system,” Ezenwa stated.
