Synod of the Diocese on the Niger currently holding at St John’s Anglican Church, Fegge, Onitsha, Anambra State, has challenged newly elected political office holders in the country not to be forgetful of the promises they laid before the masses during their campaigns.

The Synod, the highest policy making body of the diocese held out the challenge in a 95-page Presidential Address delivered by the Diocesan, the Rt Rev Dr Owen Nwokolo, Friday, June 9, 2023.
The church had, without mincing words, put it to the politicians to rather make discernable difference between their present regime and those of their predecessors.
In part, the address read; “Nigerians expect them to honourably redeem those their promises by judiciously using their newly earned offices to turn around the sorry state of the nation”.

The document also enjioned the politicians to make a difference by being selfless, considerate, bridge-builders, detribalised as well as being their brotthers’ keepers while carrying out their individual and collective assignments.
“They should help to lessen the sufferings of the people”, it said, regretting that “Nigerians have experienced untold hardships in the form of insecurity, hunger and starvation since the past few years”, adding, “We expect the new crop of public office holders now to see the need to end these shameful state of the nation. Enough, in fact, should be enough!”

The Synod, however, commended the Anambra State Government for apparently embarking on various development projects in many cities and communities in the state, although notwithstanding, appealed to the government to look into other problem areas to bring lasting solutions to them.
