Red Cross Fetes vulnerable households in Anambra

Anambra State Chairman of the Nigerian Red Cross and Crescent Movement, Prof. Charity Ifeyinwa Emelie has revealed that hundreds of vulnerable households in the state were fed during this year’s world love day.

Sixty one thousand naira cash were also distributed to one thousand five hundred households while houses were renovated for flood affected victims in Ogbaru, Anambra East and West council areas of Anambra state.

Prof. Emelie who disclosed this during a media parly with journalists at the Red Cross headquarters Amawbia in Awka South Local Government Area of the state also noted that Red Cross Society
distributed non food items such as hygiene kits, farmer’s kit, and
shelter kits to victims of flood in five Local Government Areas.

She further hinted that Nigerian Red Cross and Crescent Movement Anambra remains the first responder to every emergency with a strategic and
professional approach to every situation adding that they don’t hesitate in assessing situations like food, danger and level of vulnerability within Anambra communities.

We also drilled and reactivated water projects in Ogbaru, Anambra East
and West and contributes a lot in promotion of hygiene in schools and communities through WASH programme” she said.

Speaking on the team of the 2024 Red Cross Day, “Keeping Humanity Alive” which she described as apt, she noted that the 2024 theme is a cumulative appraisal of the entire activities of the
Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement in a precise and concise format, stressing that the theme is in line with the mandate and operations of the Red Cross and Red Crescent.

“We provide relief in times of disasters and emergencies, we reconnect families
separated by crises, we help to rebuild communities devastated by disasters,
we promote health and care of the vulnerable people and communities, and we prevent and alleviate human suffering wherever it may be
found”

She equally use the opportunity to appeal to the state Governor , Prof. Charles Chukwuma Soludo for maximum support especially on the areas they have challenges which includes functional vehicles, Clinics , unavailability of pipe born water in their offices among others.
