Red Cross describes Nigerians as coffins, says life cheap, short

The Anambra State chapter of the Nigeria Red Cross Society has condemned the spate of killings and kidnappings across the country, stating that the only sure thing in the country now is death.

State Chairman of the organisation Prof Peter Emeka Katchy, stated this during this year’s World Red Cross Day Celebration, held at its headquarters, Amawbia, near Awka, the state capital.

He said, ” It is Crystal clear that street value of every Nigerian for now could be a coffin. Nigerians can die at anytime in a situation of maximum violence. People are meeting their untimely and sudden deaths in unforeseen circumstances”

He said innocent people were being kidnapped and killed on daily basis in unforseen circumstances by terrorists, bandits and unknown gunmen.

He added, “Red Cross is concerned about the miserable loud wailings all over the nation sequel to wanton killings and kidnapping of people all over Nigeria. The situation has drastically reduced human value and has decimated humanity.

“I am appealing to concern global communities, Corporate Organizations and individuals to help join the campaign to end kidnapping banditry, killings and other social vices in Nigeria.

“It is disheartening that people are meeting their untimely and sudden deaths in unforeseen circumstances in a great country like Nigeria.

The organisation noted that inequity, hatred, inequality, animosity, partiality, injustice jealousy, greed, selfishness rooted and fueled by ignorance as the causes of violence in the country.
