Being impressed with the calibres of personalities elected to represent the Okigwe senatorial zone in the next political dispensation, HRH Eze Oliver Ohanwe has charged them to pursue with passion the rebirth of new Okigwe that anchors on accelerated infrastructural developments and transformations, human capacity building, unity of purpose, equity, fairness and natural justice.

Eze Ohanwe who’s the traditional ruler of Ihim ancient kingdom in the Isiala Mbano council area of Imo State disclosed this on Wednesday in his Wisdom Palace while addressing newsmen, in his capacity as the Chairman, Okigwe Elders Global Forum, OKEGF on the area’s great expectations from the recently elected politicians.

He advised those that won the elections
to extend hands of fellowship to their opponents noting that the election is not for a winner to take its all while asking those who lost not to think of the loss but to accept the election outcome in the spirit of good sportsmanship.

According to the Chairman, “the time to come together and build a new Okigwe Senatorial area is now. Both the winners and losers should join hands by coming together with their developmental agendas for implementations and the overall benefits of Okigwe and her populace”.

Ohanwe insisted that the position of the Forum at all times dwells on fairness, equity and justice even as he equally canvassed the need for the enthronement of sustainable peace, progress and unity of purpose as the panaceas for the area’s vision and mission for brotherly love, accelerated development and transformation.

He cautioned sons and daughters of the area especially those of them living in the diaspora to be mindful of making inflammatory statements that would create enmity, division, bickering, and wrangling and could be detrimental to the area’s passionate efforts in getting more dividends of democracy from both the State and Federal Governments.

The revered Royal Father said point-blank that election should not be seen like a war battle but rather a civic awareness and responsibility that will always come and go.

He reiterated that”I foresee a new Okigwe which conforms with the mission and vision of Okigwe Elders Global Forum. For the first time in recent times, the 3 clans and political blocs that constituted Okigwe Senatorial Zone witnessed political equity, justice and fairness.

” The 3 traditional clans and political blocs are Otazu Otanchara which is Okigwe and Onuimo LGAs, Mbano clans and the political bloc made up of Isiala Mbano and Ehime Mbano whileOdonkume traditional clan and the political bloc is made up of Obowo and Ihitte Uboma. The good news is that the elected representatives in the just concluded 2023 elections were favoured by each of the political blocs as envisaged and worked for by the Forum, (OKEGF). One thing that is so important is that these winners today are sons and daughters of Okigwe Senatorial district ” he assured.

The Chairman passionately advised politicians from the area to jettison desperation, unnecessary fighting, and disunity and always embrace the spirits of peace, let go, harmony, forgiveness and reconciliation reiterating that these are in fulfilment of the Forum’s overall mission and vision.

Eze Ohanwe further enjoined the losers of the last elections as Christians and Patriots to jettison taking the electoral matters to courts and tribunals saying it’s God that gives power and that he will be addressing the issues to traditional and cultural courts for history and posterity to vindicate them.

He also advised those who won the elections” to open their doors and hearts. They must show love and respect to them, no matter what it takes. They must think and be compassionate to the youths, elderlies, farmers, artisans, entrepreneurs and the poorest of the poor.

“They should know that the mandate they’re holding is not only to represent the rich but also the less privileged and vulnerable persons of Okigwe Senatorial Zone extractions. It’s paramount for them to know and understand that those instruments God used in electing them will be keenly watching them as their leaders with needs and great expectations. They must not live beyond expectations nor invoke their wraths” he advised.
