Rangers FC wins Aiteo cup in Enugu

Rangers International FC of Enugu on Monday defeated Ingas FC of New Layout, Enugu 1-0 to win the 2021 Enugu State Aiteo cup in Enugu.

In the final match of the competition played at the Nnamdi Azikiwe Stadium, Chiamaka Madu scored the only goal for Rangers FC from the spots kick.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the Aiteo cup competition in the state started with eight teams on June 10.

With the result, Rangers FC retained the right of representing the state at the national level.Speaking after the match, Rangers FC Team Manager, Amobi Ezeaku, praised Ingas FC players for their fighting spirit.

“Though we won but Ingas FC gave us a good fight, but we thank God  for the victory,” he said.He said that the match was a game of intensity and that any team facing Rangers FC in the state came out with all its arsenal.

Ezeaku said that the move that resulted to the penalty kick was the icing on the cake in the match.The Team Manager said that the referees showed competence by awarding the penalty and that it was an indisputable one.

He assured the club supporters that the Rangers would replicate its performance of 2018 which gave them the trophy at the expense of Kano Pillars in Asaba.“We are going to do our best to reach this season’s Aiteo cup final and probably, lift the trophy,” Ezeaku said.

The Chairman of the Enugu State Football Association, Tony Ugwu, said the competition lived up to its billing and congratulated Rangers FC for the victory .According to him, the organisation of the competition was perfect and the teams deserve commendation because of the short notice from the Nigeria Football Federation.

“We decided to play the competition to give all the teams equal opportunity and not going into round table to pick the state representative.“The most important thing is that we have produced the state representative within the authority’s stipulated time,” Ugwu said. (NAN)
