Prominent Personalities Eulogize Director, Sickle Cell Orphanage Home, Agulu, for Selfless Service

Prominent personalities in Anambra State have commended the Director, Sickle Cell Orphanage and Underprivileged Home, Agulu in Anaocha LGA of the State, Mrs Aisha Edwards Maduagwu, for her selfless service to humanity through the home, as the United Nations marked the 2025 World Sickle Cell Day on Thursday June 19.
Among them, are a former Governor of the State, Mr Peter Obi; the Young People’s Party’s Candidate for the November 8 governorship election in the State, Sir Paul Chukwuma; the People’s Democratic Party’s Candidate for the 2021 governorship election in the State, Hon Valentine Ozigbo, among others.
Mr Obi, in his goodwill message to Mrs Maduagwu, on the 2025 World Sickle Cell Day celebration, said the Sickle Cell Orphanage and Underprivileged Home, Agulu, stands as a shining example of compassion and community-driven care.
‘The 2025 United Nations World Sickle Cell Day presents an important courage and resilience of those living with sickle cell disorder—especially the indigent and orphaned.
‘Maduagwu’s continued work in providing care, shelter, and opportunity to raise awareness, strengthen advocacy, and highlight the dignity to these individuals is truly commendable.
‘This reflects the values I hold dear—compassionate service, social justice, and inclusive development for all, especially the vulnerable.
‘I am pleased that Anambra continues to lead in this regard through institutions like yours.
‘As you mark this global observance in Agulu, I send my heartfelt support and encouragement.
‘May your work continue to touch lives, raise awareness, and inspire collective action across our society,’ Obi urged.
In his remarks during the celebration, Sir Chukwuma expressed satisfaction with the service and care Maduagwu renders to humanity through the Sickle Cell Orphanage and Underprivileged Home, Agulu.
‘I’m impressed with the work you are doing here. Therefore, we commend you for your effort and service.
‘It is worthy of emulation and selfless. Indeed, it is not one that came with earthly or material profit. Keep it up,’ Chukwuma, who was represented in the event by his Running Mate, Mr Uzu Okagbue, urged.
Also speaking, Hon Ozigbo said, the learning the children of the home displayed in their speech presentations, was a testament of the good work Mrs Maduagwu and her team do.
‘I want to pay special homage to Aisha; she is been consistently hard-working, and efficient.
‘As I listened to these kids, I felt like going back to be like them.
‘Well done Aisha; what you and your team is doing is highly commendable,’ Ozigbo said.
He enjoined them not to be overwhelmed by their health condition, arguing that the world presented one challenge or the another to every person living in it.
He argued that what mattered in life is how impactful one lived one’s life, but not the number of years one lived on earth.
‘This why I truly expressed my satisfaction with the quality of children you raise here when I was listening to their speeches,’ Ozigbo said.
Ozigbo, Chukwuma and Obi pledged to continue to support and identify with the home.
