Principal Lesson From Edo Governorship Election

0

Edo state Governor, Godwin Obaseki has been returned for the second term as declared by the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC.

It’s so heartwarming to lovers of democracy but not without a fierce battle. Governor Obaseki campaigned vigorously and reached out to stakeholders across the divide. He won under the umbrella of the People’s Democratic Party, PDP by scoring 307,955 while his opponent Osagie Ize-Iyamu of All Progressives Congress, APC scored 223,619

This deserved victory came despite Governor Obaseki’s estrangement with his political associate Comrade Adams Oshiomhole, the former National Chairman of APC.

Undoubtedly, this is a good sign for democracy because people’s choice prevailed. This election will definitely serve as a reflector to whatever will be the outcome of the Governorship election in Ondo State next month and ultimately Anambra State election in 2021.
Indeed, with the People’s verdict all hands must be on deck because to win governorship election in Anambra State, a flagbearer must win the People’s trust.

Obviously, what happened in Edo State was sheer People’s resolve to make the desired positive definition in our nation’s democracy and that is required of every electorate and stakeholder in support of the candidacy of Dr. Godwin Maduka.

It’s rewarding that a Godwin has been enthroned in Edo State and we know that in Anambra State another Godwin will emerge.

Dr. Godwin Maduka, a foremost Governorship aspirant under the platform of the PDP is pragmatic, God fearing and the People’s Choice at the right time.
